First time parent: what to pack in your hospital bag

What do you pack to bring a new life into the world? If it’s your first time, you may feel the need to pack everything in sight. We’ve polled parents who have been through it, to bring you the essential list.

Comfort Yourself

  • The essentials
    • Your own pillows and blankets
    • Heating pad
    • Shampoo and conditioner
    • Toothbrush
    • Hair ties
    • Chapstick
    • Snacks for you and your partner

Mom Tip:  Many moms say that the post birth shower is the best shower you’ll have in your life - so make sure you have everything to help you feel your best.

Stay calm

    • Tablet to watch your favorite movie
    • Headphones to listen to music before giving birth and even during labor.

Mom tip: Some moms recommend making a labor playlist to help you in the moment!

Bring the bare necessities

  • Essential garments
    • Extra large comfy underwear
    • Comfortable nursing bras and tops that button up
    • Slippers
    • Shower flip flops
    • Baggy, comfortable clothes
    • Post birth
      • Pregnancy pads
      • Nipple cream
      • Breast pads
      • Breast pump
      • Belly band

    Mom Tip: The temperature may be too hot in the hospital room and to ease sweating during contractions and labor, most moms recommend bringing your own stand up fan.

    Have documentation

    • Your birth plan
    • Medications
    • Identification
    • Medical and insurance cards

    Take sleepwear for mom - and baby

    • Swaddle or sack for your baby
    • Nursing gown or button up pajamas
    • Robe
    • Socks

    Mom Tip: If your baby is over 7lbs - getting a lightly weighted Zen Swaddle or Zen Sack will have your little one sleeping well from day one.

    Prep for going home

    • Car seat
    • Footie PJ
    • Weather related clothing
      • Jacket, hat, mittens
    • Baby blanket

    Mom Tip: Keep track of the weather on the day of to make sure your little one is prepared for the elements! Also - assembling the car seat a week or so beforehand is a huge help!
